Steps to easily launch servers on a supported provider

Select the workspace where your new server will belong and click New server as in the following screenshot.

Choose the provider where Moss will launch your server. In case you haven’t enabled the corresponding integration yet, click Manage integrations and complete that process first. When you’re done, you’ll get back to this screen.

Choose the region of the datacenter. Some providers have multiple availability zones within a same region (they’re usually identified by numbers or letters below the country and city of the region). Select the one you’re interested in or just leave the default value.

Choose the operating system of your new server. You’re encouraged to use the latest supported version of Ubuntu Server – the default value. Moss will find out the most recent image the provider offers for the operating system you selected.

Choose the instance type of your server. The instance type determines the number of CPUs, the amount of RAM, and the price of your server. Depending on the provider and the instance type, it may also determine the type and/or size of the disk of your server.

However, some providers let you choose the type (HDD vs SSD) and size of the disk at will.

Choose the timezone of your server. Moss will use this value to set such timezone on your server. By default Moss chooses the timezone that corresponds to your browser’s settings, but you may change it if needed.

Optionally, choose an SSH Public Key to upload onto your server under user moss. This allows you to log into your server as a privileged user (can run sudo) later on. But you can do this at any other time.

Finally, provide a name for your server to identify it in Moss. Such name will also become the hostname of the server. Optionally, you may check the Enable swap memory box and provide the amount of swap memory (MB) you want Moss to set up on your server (by default Moss assumes some swap memory if your server has less than 2GB of RAM).

Click Create and Moss will start an operation to launch and set up your new server in the background. At this moment, you can keep adding servers or click Close to come back to the main panel of your workspace.

If you click the operations icon at the top of the screen, you should see an in-progress operation to launch your server. Once it’s done, you can click Show log to check the details of such operation.
